The lamp at my feet isn't always enough to see the whole path, but it's always enough for the next step.
That's what I've learned about trusting God's promises. We want the full blueprint, the complete roadmap with every turn and destination clearly marked. Instead, He gives us just enough light for today's journey.
Psalm 119:105 tells us, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Notice it doesn't say a floodlight illuminating miles ahead. Just a lamp for our feet, a light for our path—enough for the next step.
Trusting His promises isn't about having all the answers. It's about knowing who holds them. Those seasons of exhaustion—when everything within you wants to give up—reveal what you're truly resting on.
Are we resting on our understanding, our strength, our plans? Or are we resting on His unchanging character and faithful promises?
Resting in God's promises during challenging times means allowing His truth to be louder than our fears. It means opening Scripture not just to study it, but to let it study us—to let it examine our hearts and realign our thinking.
When life feels overwhelming, rest isn't found in escape but in entrance—entering His presence, dwelling in His Word, standing on His promises. Not because they guarantee an easy path, but because they guarantee we won't walk it alone.
His promises aren't cushions to make life comfortable; they're anchors to keep us steady when life isn't. They remind us that our circumstances may change, but His character doesn't.
So how do we rest in His promises during challenging times? We hold them close. We speak them aloud. We share them with others who need to hear them too. We let them shape our prayers and guide our choices.
And in doing so, we find that trust isn't something we muster up on our own. It's something that grows naturally as we experience His faithfulness one day, one step, one promise at a time.
