Before/How/Now
Your story has power. By sharing what God has done in your life, you might encourage someone who feels lost, hopeless, or stuck. Use the prompts below to guide you. Keep it simple, honest, and from the heart.
1. BEFORE – What was your life like before Christ?
(describe the struggles, mindset, or situation you were in before you encountered Jesus.)
• What was missing in your life?
• What pain, sin, or emptiness were you dealing with?
• Did you have any false beliefs about god or yourself?
• What were you searching for?
Example:
“I grew up thinking I had to earn my worth through success. No matter how much I achieved, I felt empty. Anxiety and fear controlled me, and I had no real peace.”
2. HOW – How did you come to know Christ?
(share the moment, process, or key event that led you to Jesus.)
• What opened your eyes to the truth?
• Was there a specific moment of surrender?
• Did someone share the gospel with you?
• What finally made you realize you needed him?
Example:
“One night, I hit rock bottom. I felt like I had nothing left to give. A friend invited me to church, and for the first time, I heard about grace—not a god who demanded perfection, but one who loved me despite my failures. That night, I prayed for the first time and asked Jesus to take control.”
3. NOW – What is God doing in your life today?
(share how your life has changed since following Christ.)
• How has god transformed your heart, relationships, or purpose?
• What struggles do you still face, and how do you see god working?
• What encouragement would you give to someone reading your story?
Example:
“I still have challenges, but now I have peace. I know my identity isn’t in what I achieve, but in Christ. I no longer carry the weight of proving myself—I rest in his grace. And now, I want to help others find the same freedom.”
